Mechanical Engineering 

Mechanical engineering is the most common engineering degree. Mechanical engineering is almost twice as common as the second sector on this list, with approximately 50,000 undergraduate degrees awarded each year.

A mechanical engineering degree is one of the most complex branches of engineering. Anything from individual parts to complicated, large-scale structures is planned and assembled. Mechanical engineers receive an average of $97,654 in their mid-career.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering, in comparison to civil engineering, is a more recent branch of engineering. The division of engineering that deals with electricity and electronics are known as electrical engineering. With over 31,000 undergraduate degrees awarded each year, it is also the second most common engineering major.

From 2019 to 2029, the sector is projected to expand at a rate of 3%, which is around the same as the overall growth rate. Engineering facilities, research and development, and automotive sectors are the leading employers of electrical engineers. This profession earns an average of $105,789 in mid-career.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineering fields, and it includes the design and building of highways, bridges, water networks, dams, and other structures. With about 22,000 students graduating each year, it’s also one of the most famous. Civil engineering majors will be in high demand as the world’s population increases, necessitating more facilities.

Civil engineering has a bright future. From 2019 to 2029, the sector is projected to expand at a pace of 2%. Civil engineers receive an average of $87,000 in their mid-career. It’s likely that if more federal funds are diverted to infrastructure growth, this figure will increase.

Industrial Engineering (IE)

When you want to maximize or enhance an engineering operation’s efficiency, you turn to industrial engineers. They formulate new strategies for mitigating resource waste, such as money, supplies, and working hours. Every year, nearly 10,000 recent graduates earn their B.S. in industrial engineering.

Industrial engineers received an average median wage of $88,020 in 2019, which was marginally lower than other engineering sectors and considerably higher than most other jobs. Industrial engineers have promising career prospects. According to the Bureau of Labour Statistics, positions in this sector are projected to rise by 10% between 2019 and 2029. That’s faster than both the all-occupation and the all-engineer growth rate.
